I'm Alive!

I know, I've been m.i.a. for a month now. I've been buried under a mountain of books. In fact, this is what I've been dealing with that required me to give up Martha for quite a few months.

It was not my intention to stop blogging...I had actually pre-blogged some material, but somehow just couldn't keep up. My sister has been asking about my return, so I'm back! Stay tuned!

Give Me My Food Network Back!

Cablevision really kicked off our new year to a good start (sarcasm, of course). Literally, when midnight struck on New Years Eve, Food Network and HGTV disappeared from our cable program. Sadly, I have to say goodbye to Ina for now until Cablevision and Scripps Network come to some agreement.

I've be surviving on Travel Channel and Bravo alone...I don't know how long I can hold on.

Trick or Treat?

Trick, apparently. We bought a roach house. Little did we know that we had company until the sun went down. Hopefully, setting two roach bombs worked. To all house hunters out there, make sure you visit your dream house during the day and also at night before you sign the papers!

Anyways, Happy Halloween!

It's No Secret...

...that I dislike networking. I finally figured out why, thanks to one of my favorite blogs by Jasmine Star. I was crazy about looking through photographers' blogs when I was doing wedding research, and her blog had such beautiful beautiful beautiful photography and was written with such passion.

Anyways, Jasmine's latest post was on her workshop, where she tackled the subject of ANTInetworking. Her slide spoke to me. Lots of people in the business world focus on networking, but I don't believe they truly make a real connection because there are plenty of people in this world who think "what's in it for me?" And then there are people who are just plain fake. I've always believed in being genuine and helping people, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who's ANTInetworking.

So Jealous!

I love to cook, but I'm not dying to see Julie & Julia. Surprised? I do have some interest though, in seeing how Meryl Streep pulls off the great Julia Child...she is just such an incredible actress. From what I can tell from the commercials, she does a pretty good portrayal of her!

Image from Wikipedia

There has been a lot of press for Julie & Julia, and I was so jealous to learn that they have been holding publicity functions for the movie at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, about an hour from NYC. Known for their use of fresh produce from their farm and other local producers, Blue Hill has been on my radar for a while now, but I haven't been able to bring myself to their location in NYC. Anyways, apparently, the press have been treated to their fare at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Lucky.

Happy Birthday to THE Martha...Fung Blog!

It was exactly a year ago that I launched this blog under the influence of my sister & brother in law (and wine). A year later, I'm still single (just check my tax forms). Nope, that's not what I wanted to say....Let me re-do that. A year later, I'm still planning the wedding, still eating, cooking, and most of all, blogging!

I hope I'm doing a good job so far in sharing with you my adventures of being the Asian Martha Stewart. If not, let me know. And if you do enjoy my blog, let me know too!

Happy Chinese New Year!

It's the year of the Ox...and the year of our wedding!

This is the last year I'll be receiving "lai see" (red envelopes). It's a tradition to give/receive money in red envelopes for Chinese New Year. However, if you're married, you stop receiving in some cases and start giving.

I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.

Slight Change Coming

I'm back...with some news.

I swear this was not one of my new year resolutions - I'll be cutting back on the number of posts I write on this blog over the next couple of months up 'til June. Unfortunately, I have to choose between studying and wedding planning, and blogging just isn't as much of a priority.

Although I won't be blogging as often as daily like I have done, I will be blogging nevertheless. I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog so far and will continue to do so in the future!

Boxing Day

I practiced Boxing Day when I was younger living in Hong Kong. This is the day you open your gifts and follows Christmas Day. Although it is not a tradition in the U.S., I still like to follow it (and so does my dad) to remind me of the good ol'days.

I happen to think it's really neat to have an added extra suspense! Happy Boxing Day!

Merry Christmas!

This is actually the first time in a looooong time I'm spending Christmas with my family. I'm very grateful for that and am looking forward to the food! :-)

Enjoy your Christmas and stay warm!

Best Wishes,

*Martha*

Boston Weirdness - Part IV

I was told that this is the ultimate Boston outfit:

Usually in Boston, you see long sleeves combined with shorts - I was told this is classically Boston. The sweater wrapped around the waist on this dude took it to the extreme. I don't see this alot (or even once) in NYC.

I hope you enjoyed this series of Boston weirdness!

Boston Weirdness, Part III

The "face" of a tree trunk in Boston Common.

You know how people can use their imagination to see shapes or other things in clouds? I don't know about you, but I can't make anything out from this tree trunk.

Boston Weirdness, Part II

I saw this while passing by the MFA. I took two quick takes before I figured out that wasn't a real person.

Technical Difficulty

In case if you haven't noticed, I haven't been blogging lately. I'm happy to announce that the technical difficulty I've been having has been fixed! I'll start blogging again tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to My Brother-in-Law

I hope you liked your homemade grown up birthday cupcakes!

Above, 4 different cupcakes sitting on silicon baking cups with four paws

Above, note the amazing detailed sprinkles work on tigger :-P. Do you see the legs too?

Above, the detailed work that went into making arms for pooh out of lemon icing

Above, a dog if you can't tell...made out of 2 cupcakes and chocolate frosting. All photography by my sister

It was all my sister's idea. She commissioned me to make cupcakes and decorate them in such a grown up way. It's far from being my best work, but it's not bad for a first timer working with icing & frosting huh.

My 100th Post!

Yes, I know what my sister must be saying..."get a job!"

It's been pretty therapeutic writing what's been on my mind, but if I'm if I'm boring you or you want to see more of something, leave me a comment and let me know!

More to come...tea & five spice rub, cucumber & apple slaw, turkey spring rolls, cucumber avocado soup and braised pork belly.

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday to my grandma, mom and maid-of-honor!

Sorry mom, I'm not baking you a cake this year given that you threw out the remaining slice of cake last year in the trash can because you didn't want a second serving another time.

And to my lovely maid-of-honor...have a very special day! May you stay as young as you are right now, happy and beautiful always.

Happy Anniversary!

I was just informed by my sister that it's our 20th anniversary in the United States. We first stepped foot here in July 1988. I can't believe it's been 20 years!!!

I still miss my real home. To me, Hong Kong will always be my home.
